Planning Your Visit
The Research Room is the access point for viewing all open manuscript collections in the MPA.
No appointment is needed. The Reading Room is open Monday - Thursday, 10.am. - 3:00 p.m. Please note, that we are closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Schedule is subject to change at any time and without notice, patrons are encouraged to call ahead to confirm schedule.
Finding Aid
It is helpful to review the finding aid to each collection prior to visiting the reading room. Most finding aids include folder level descriptions of the collection contents, and are often grouped in a series of files. Finding Aids are availble online via the archival collections tab in the left column or by mousing over the hierarchy of tabs next to the archival collections tab.
Registration
All reading room patrons must register once every twelve (12) months prior to being granted access to any MPA collection. Registration includes: 1) Providing a driver's licence or other valid form of photo identification. 2) Completing a registration form. All patron registration forms and information are confidential and are only viewed by MPA staff; it will be kept in his or her patron file record. It will remain on file for return visits for twelve (12) months then shredded. Returning patrons within the twelve month period will only be required to show photo identification and sign in and out of the reading room.
Call Procedures
After registering, patrons are asked to store their belongings prior to being seated in our reading room. Paper, pencils and collection call forms are all provided and are located on each desk. Patrons are not allowed to bring any bags, purses, documents or other belongings to the table. In most cases, a laptop computer may be used at the research table. Patrons may request the use of one box of materials at a time. Boxes are requested by filling out a blue collection call sheet.
